Imagine you’re flipping (or scrolling) through the morning paper when you spot a small headline on the third page: “Cops seize coke, cash, and Lexus from caught smoking pot in drive-thru.” While it’s not an everyday occurrence, it’s hardly sensational—in most urban centers, it would be lucky to make third-page news. Many of us scan through articles like this every day when we read the paper, and most of us don’t give them a second thought.

But have you ever stopped to wonder just what happens to all the cool stuff that the cops seize? Not the cash and the guns, of course. Usually there are laws about where those are supposed to go, and usually this is a room marked “evidence.” But what about the car? Just how much room do they have back there?
